When you post a comment, the site collects your name or pseudonym, email address, website (optional), IP address and the content of your message. This data is used to publish your comment, recognise you on future visits and detect spam.

An anonymised hash of your email address may be sent to Gravatar (Automattic privacy policy) to display your avatar if you have one.

Legal basis: legitimate interests (Article 6(1)(f) GDPR) — enabling comment publication and moderation.

Contact Form

Data submitted via the contact form (name, email address, message) is used solely to reply to your enquiry. It is not sold to third parties or used for commercial or statistical purposes.

Legal basis: pre-contractual measures at the request of the data subject (Article 6(1)(b) GDPR).

Comment Reply Notifications

If you opt in to receive email notifications of replies to your comment, your email address is retained for that sole purpose until you unsubscribe.

Legal basis: consent (Article 6(1)(a) GDPR).

Audience Measurement

This site uses two audience measurement tools to better understand how visitors use the site and to improve its content:

  • Google Analytics (Google LLC) — configured to collect browsing data in anonymised form (truncated IP addresses, no data sharing with other Google services). Learn more: Google Privacy Policy.
  • StatCounter (StatCounter, Dublin, Ireland) — configured for anonymised data collection. Learn more: StatCounter Privacy Policy.

These tools may place audience measurement cookies on your device (see Section 4). You can disable data collection at any time (see “Your Rights”).

Legal basis: legitimate interests (Article 6(1)(f) GDPR) — improving the service based on anonymised statistical data.

Embedded Content

Some articles include embedded third-party content (YouTube videos, maps, etc.). This content behaves as if you were visiting those third-party services directly and may collect data on their own behalf. Please consult their respective privacy policies for more information.

3. Retention Periods

  • Comments: retained indefinitely to enable ongoing exchange management and moderation.
  • Contact form data: retained indefinitely.
